The Story of Hebron Brick Company

Hebron Brick Company was founded in 1904 by Charles Weigel and Ferdinand Leutz as the Hebron Fire & Pressed Brick Company. In its earliest days, clay was hauled from the mine to the plant by horse and wagon, where it was formed, dried and fired into brick that would help build growing communities across the Northern Plains.

Growth came early. In 1913, the factory expanded to include 12 continuous kilns, producing nearly five million bricks annually. By 1916, production had climbed to 8.5 million bricks, and the company transitioned from horse-drawn clay wagons to rail delivery, signaling an early commitment to modernization and technology.

That commitment was tested, as World War I brought economic strain and bankruptcy, and then devastating fire destroyed much of the plant in 1926. Each time, Hebron rebuilt, converting kilns to gas-fired systems and positioning the company for decades of continued production. Through the Great Depression, another world war, and sweeping changes in the construction industry, Hebron Brick persisted when others did not.

Of the 18 brick plants that once dotted the North Dakota landscape, only Hebron Brick remains today. While many plants closed under the pressures of world wars, economic downturns and shifting demand, Hebron endured. Our longevity is a result of a century-long commitment to grit, perfecting our craft and standing by our partners through every economic cycle.

Throughout the '80s, '90s and 21st century, Hebron continued to innovate, implement new technologies, and greatly expand its manufacturing capacity and North American market share.

The Perfect Ingredients

In 2017, the company became 100% employee owned when longtime owner Rodney Paseka sold the business to its employees, aligning Hebron’s future with the people who work every day to produce, support and deliver its products.

Today, Hebron Brick Company continues to manufacture clay brick in Hebron, North Dakota, using clay from the Golden Valley Formation, an ancient deposit dating back to over 60 million years ago during the Paleocene Epoch. This unique geology allows us to produce premium brick with natural color depths that our customers have enjoyed and relied on for decades. With long-standing expertise and modern production technology, Hebron now produces over 35 million premium bricks annually for distribution across North America.
